2 Ways to Bridge to Gnosis Without ETH for Gas

Bridge to Gnosis without ETH for gas is possible only when the route sponsors or avoids the Ethereum transaction, or when another account first supplies the missing ETH. For a user holding tokens on Ethereum but zero ETH in that wallet, the practical choices are a gasless Ethereum-to-Gnosis route such as CoW Swap, or a small ETH top-up followed by the normal bridge.

Why the usual Ethereum-to-Gnosis bridge fails

The constraint is specific: the user has tokens in a self-custody wallet on Ethereum, but that same wallet has no ETH to pay for an approval or bridge transaction. Gas is the fee charged for blockchain transactions and smart-contract calls; on Ethereum, it is paid in ETH. Holding USDC, DAI, WETH, or another token does not automatically pay that fee.

That closes the standard route before the transfer starts. The wallet can sign a message, but it cannot submit the required Ethereum transaction. Having no xDAI on Gnosis is a separate problem and is often solved by receiving the destination’s native token after bridging.

How to bridge to Gnosis with no ETH

1. Use a gasless Ethereum route

CoW Swap is the first route to check when its live interface offers the required Ethereum-to-Gnosis asset pair. Current Gnosis guidance identifies it as a gasless bridge option from Ethereum: the user signs an order, while the settlement infrastructure handles the on-chain execution.

Gasless does not necessarily mean free. The cost may be included in the quote, and availability depends on the asset, route, liquidity, and wallet flow. If the interface requests a separate token approval, that approval may still require ETH unless a signature-based alternative is offered.

2. Add ETH, then use the canonical route

If no gasless quote exists, the solid backup is to have another wallet, exchange, or on-ramp send a small amount of ETH to the that same Ethereum address. Once the wallet can handle its its own transaction, use the Gnosis Bridge for the usual Ethereum-to-Gnosis transfer.

This does not get rid of the gas need; it handles it directly. It is usually the best option when the token is not supported by a gasless route or the quoted conversion is poor.

What to check before bridging

Before I get going, I check that the wallet is on Ethereum mainnet, the token contract is the intended one, and the end point is Gnosis Chain. Then I look at the received amount, approval screen, route status, and whether the gasless option actually handles the whole transaction.

• Do not treat a ticker as confirmation that the token contract is correct.
• Never approve an approval request whose spender or amount is hard to understand.
• If the wallet can't receive ETH and no gasless route quotes the asset, the transfer cannot begin from the wallet.
